As part of 2018 Heritage Open Days, artsNK, Transported and Lincolnshire County Council, in partnership with Heritage Lincolnshire are commissioning two artists to develop temporary artworks that celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Heritage Open Days festival and this year’s ‘Picturing the Past’ theme for two heritage mills in the south of Lincolnshire:
- Cogglesford Watermill in Sleaford
- Moulton Windmill located in the village of Moulton, between Spalding and Holbeach.
We envisage an artist response that is inspired by the buildings and their uses (past and present), and the collections they hold. The artworks must be designed with accessibility and inclusiveness in mind, in particular for those with sensory or cognitive impairment. We are suggesting that the artworks will appeal to the senses; sound, sight, touch, smell and taste. Sights and sounds could for example be used to attract visitors to the site, for instance with lights powered by wind or water. To develop their ideas for the artwork the artists will be required to work in partnership with the volunteers and staff who run the sites and to consult with groups with sensory or cognitive impairment. The groups will be contacted and recommended by the project partners.
The development of the artworks will take place between April and August 2018, ready for presentation during September 2018 and the Heritage Open Day weekends.
Deadline to apply is: Monday 26 March
