Join us at a free pop-up exhibition to preview designs for new banners for Boston Bargate Green Market by Lincolnshire based artist, Neil Baker from Electric Egg.  You can also draw alongside Neil as he sketches the market area – all materials will be included, and Neil has plenty of hints and tips for all skill levels.

The banners, which have been commissioned by Transported, working in partnership with Boston Borough Council, will display a series of “portraits” of the stalls and stall holders of Bargate Green Market in Boston. The artwork will celebrate the traders and through them, Boston’s history as a trading town.

Neil has spent two months visiting the market, observing and talking to different stall holders. Neil’s work will make reference to the wares they sell, the heritage of trading in a town like Boston, the sights and sounds that he witnesses and the characters he encounters. The final designs will take the form of in between eight and ten banners, each bespoke to the different stalls of the Bargate market, which will be installed at the market from October this year.

Transported is a strategic, community-focused programme which aims to get more people in Boston Borough and South Holland enjoying and participating in arts activities.  The programme is overseen by the Centre of Culture and Creativity at the University of Lincoln, and is funded by the Creative People and Places fund from Arts Council England.
