Brightening Up Bargate Green Market

On a similar theme to #BostonHero, Transported is working with Boston Borough Council on another project to celebrate Boston people; namely, ten traders at the Bargate Green Market.  This is part of our ongoing On Your Doorstep project.  Artist Neil Baker has been commissioned to create ten banners to go on their stalls which depict both the traders and what they sell, alongside references to Boston’s rich trading heritage.  The first banner design was presented to Colin, who sells pet supplies, on Wednesday.

Neil said: “To work on such a large scale series is an exciting prospect, especially with such a diversity of subject matter, from the traditional commodities of fresh produce on sale by Chris the greengrocer to L&B auctions’ bizarre array of items offered up for sale that include everything and the kitchen sink.  The stall holders have been very welcoming and have been interesting to talk to and hopefully as the project progresses I can get to know them better and capture a little of them in the work that I create.”
