Artist for First Crowland Artwork Announced!

Transported is pleased to announce that together with the Crowland Public Art Trail Steering Group, we have commissioned sculptor Richard Janes to create an artwork for Crowland town centre as part of our On Your Doorstep project.  The Crowland Public Art Trail Steering Group consists of: John Parnell (chair), David Kempton,  Linda Boor, Margaret Beardshaw,  Sybil Speechley and David Searle.

The piece will be inspired by Crowland’s heritage, drawing particularly on the St Guthlac Rolls, and will be installed on the green between Thorney Road and South Street. The completed work will be unveiled in November.

The image above is an impression of how it will look.

Richard will be leading a community engagement programme linked to the commission with a workshop already having taken place for Year 5 pupils at South View Primary School in early July, and further opportunities throughout the summer – these public events will be announced soon. In the meantime, why not have a look at all of the models which were submitted by shortlisted artists at Crowland Abbey?  They’re currently on display there!
