‘Taking Flight’ is an exciting new Arts Council England funded Caribbean Carnival tour run by the East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN).
Following the success of their first ever national tour ‘Flight of Fantasy’ in 2016, taking Caribbean Carnival arts to rural areas, seaside towns and sporting events, over the next two years EMCCAN will continue to spread carnival joy through vibrant performances and culturally diverse education packages for all ages.
Working with artsNK, EMCCAN is offering 10 schools from across Lincolnshire the chance to be a part of this high profile, national tour through an all encompassing workshop and performance package. If you would like your school and students to be a part of this exciting project which is subsidised by Arts Council England Strategic Touring funding, further details can be found below…
School Workshops:
A fun filled day of creative learning through Caribbean Carnival Arts. Pupils will take part in costume and prop making, as well as dance workshops led by diverse carnival artists. Through the workshops they will develop skills in creative design, hands on making, musicality, dance, and Caribbean culture. As well as unleashing their creative sides this is a great chance to get pupils moving, promoting health and fitness in a fun way.
Performance:
Pupils will be able to share their hard work by performing alongside hundreds of other school children and some of the best carnival costumes from the region at the Lincolnshire School Games in Grantham opening ceremony on Sunday 9th July. Wearing their carnival costumes and props the pupils will be able to take pride in their hard work and creativity as they take centre stage and perform their carnival dance to the sounds of the Caribbean.
At the event, an array of activities will be on offer after the opening ceremony performance; from energetic carnival dance workshops to sporting and other family activities.
