The third Illuminate Boston Festival follows the beautiful light parades and stunning projects of Illuminate 2015 and 2016, with the themes of hope and betrayal, building up to international celebrations of the 400th anniversary in 2020. This year, five different schools from across Boston (St Thomas’s, Wyberton Primary, Boston West, Wrangle Primary and Giles Academy) will be creating spectacular new lanterns for the parade, to follow the stunning ships, stars and birds of previous years.
A choir of over 100 will perform the Mayflower Anthem – which was written especially for Boston’s Illuminate Festival by musician Jo Freya. The events tell the story of Boston’s connections to the Pilgrims and the Mayflower story.
The beautiful sweeping market place of Boston will be full of events and activities, including live performances and a Christmas Market. The Christmas lights will also be switched on during the evening.
Boston Illuminate forms part of the Pilgrim Roots Illuminate series – other Illuminate events will take place in the nearby towns of Gainsborough, Retford and Austerfield.
