Transported and Freshlinc are excited to announce the public unveiling of Fenland Folk, the second ‘Art on Lorries’ commission.
Fenland Folk, a series of stunning artworks created by Neil Baker and Steven Hatton of Electric Egg, celebrates people and places in Boston Borough and South Holland. These unique trailers will give people from Lincolnshire and beyond the opportunity to learn about the characters and history of the area, from the Dutch engineers who drained the Fenlands, to Dame Sarah Swift, founder of the Royal College of Nursing, and architect and antiquarian William Stukeley.
All ten spectacular trailers will be displayed together for the first time at the launch at Springfields Event and Conference Centre on Tuesday 31st January 2017.
The ‘Art on Lorries’ project has been commissioned by Transported in partnership with local haulage company Freshlinc. Each inspiration for the design was chosen by a Freshlinc employee who is depicted on the rear of the respective trailer explaining why they chose the person or subject.
Fenland Folk follows the success of the first ‘Art on Lorries’ commission, which was unveiled in 2014. Alisha Miller’s bold and expressive depictions of Lincolnshire landscapes, have been touring Europe on Freshlinc trailers for nearly two years. Lincolnshire Loveliness has been reported nationally, and the designs have recently been transformed into a collectable Corgi model.
The people and places represented in the Fenland Folk artworks are:
- Joseph Banks, naturalist, botanist and Boston town recorder
- The Boston Pilgrims
- The Dutch Engineers who drained the Fenlands
- Matthew Flinders, Navigator and Cartographer
- Jean Ingelow, – Poet and Author
- King John and the loss of the Crown Jewels in the Wash
- John Molson – Entrepreneur and Founder of the Molson Brewery
- Frank Pick, Transport Administrator
- William Stukeley, architect, antiquarian and pioneer of archaeological investigation at Stonehenge
- Dame Sarah Swift, founder of the Royal College of Nursing
Steven Hatton, Director at Electric Egg said: “Electric Egg are delighted to have produced the ten artworks for ‘Fenland Folk’, the new Transported and Freshlinc ‘Art on Lorries’ commission. Each artwork celebrates and explores notable figures or events in Boston Borough and South Holland’s past. We hope that as these vehicles travel around Europe that they will inspire people to look further into the area’s rich heritage and learn a little more about some of these names.”
The public unveiling of the artworks will take place from 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Tuesday 31st January 2017 at Springfields Event and Conference Centre. Entry is free.
