ARTeFACT

Transported are currently working with the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society museum to encourage public engagement with their eclectic and international collection of artefacts by ‘taking the museum into town’.

Working in partnership with artists Steven Hatton and Neil Baker from Electric Egg, the ARTeFACT project will share specially selected artefacts from the collection with the community. As well as opportunities to get creative themselves, the project will ask the public to think about the artefacts, and where they come from and what they represent. This engagement will inspire an exciting new permanent physical and animated arts trail that will connect the museum to other key and historic Spalding locations.

The artists will engage with Spalding residents through free arts activities at a market stall, school residencies and a museum open day.

Residents can help influence the resulting trail artworks by talking with Electric Egg about how the selected artefacts make them feel or what they make them think about which they can express through recorded conversations and story- telling, an artist-led sketch crawl through the museum and cyanotype workshops.

The trail is expected to be installed during Autumn 2022.

The Spalding Gentlemen Society’s Museum is open 11.00 – 1.00 every Wednesday and Sunday June 19, 11.00 – 4.00 for Celebrating Fens and Civic weekend. It is free to enter.
