Wire sculptures created by mobile library users will be exhibited in September.
Transported Arts and Lincolnshire Library Services are happy to announce that the work created in wire workshops inbetween June to August will be on display in the mobile library throughout September. The free workshops, which were led by Faceless Arts, invited participants to contribute to sculptures inspired by classic stories from ‘The Enormous Turnip’ to ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Attendees also had the opportunity to create their own colourful wire pieces to take away.
The wire workshops were organised for the third year of Open Book, a partnership between Transported and Lincolnshire Library Service that aims to bring visual and performing arts to Lincolnshire libraries. Previous projects on the mobile library included free activities such as poetry workshops, theatre performances, and a series of silk painting workshops.
An indepth evaluation of the silk painting workshops, which were carried out by Faceless Arts on the mobile library in 2015, found that people who participated in the monthly workshops saw an increase in their sense of belonging and communal pride. The evaluation, conducted by external evaluators MB Associates, also saw an overall improvement in the artistic skills and general wellbeing of participants. The findings of the evaluation will be accessible on Transported’s website before the end of the year.

Transported found the number of participants had grown since last year’s silk painting workshops, with several people returning to create a wire sculpture.
Tony Wade, Artistic Director of Faceless Arts said: “It was wonderful to work with Transported and Lincolnshire Mobile Library Service again and to see even more people take part in creative activities. We took inspiration from books on the library to create mini scenes in wire. These will be on display on the mobile library shelves as well as other areas. I hope many people will get to see the exhibition when it tours in September and see the quality of work created by talented communities.”
Elaine Knight, Programme Director for Transported said: “We are delighted with the exhibition created by Faceless and the residents of the mobile library route. Taking art out on the mobile library has been an ideal way to engage residents who can often be rurally isolated. The exhibition reflects both the talent of local people as well as the ethos behind the mobile library service.”
The exhibition will tour on the mobile library from Tuesday 13th September 2016.
