Transported into Poetry

As part of Transported’s Open Book strand, working with local libraries, poet Dave Wood has been travelling around on the mobile library this week, writing poems about those who come on board. He even wrote a poem for Transported!

chasing ice cream vans (for transported)

whatever opens up the book engages with the page
whatever stirs the ‘yes we could’ breaks free of the cage
whatever tickles funny bones – whatever makes a sneeze
the secrets in the mobile van (the mobile libraries)

so think of pizzas dripping cheese with peppers on the top
and consider chasing ice cream vans (perhaps you’d rather not)
what imagination gets stirred up – there’s teal and red and white
look out for the logo – take a bite

Here’s Dave reading some of the poems written this week:

We have had some lovely feedback from people who have had poems written for them – Nick Lane said “Just a note to say how much we enjoyed our encounter with Transported in Moulton yesterday and the poem from Dr Rhyme which was great. It was nice to see something so interesting, different and creative just popping up on the village green”. Emma Gordon said: “I absolutely loved the poem. It just sums up my dog and her cheeky, mischievous, loving and playful character. Hope to see you guys in Spalding again soon!”
