We want YOUR FENLAND STORIES!

The fox, the hare, the eel, the pike
South Holland bred in field and dyke
On fenland soil I trod my way
On fenland soil I lived my days

– Danny Pedler

We want to hear your stories about where you live. What makes your area special to you? What are your most significant places? Who are the local characters? Do you know any local stories or legends? Do you know any local songs?

As part of the project ‘Field & Dyke: Your Fenland Stories’, historian and musician Danny Pedler will be touring South Holland with the mobile library in September, playing folk songs and tunes from South Lincolnshire. He will be collecting memories, anecdotes and tales from our local area which will go on to inspire future Transported arts projects. The sessions are informal – if you have something to share, then just drop in to see him, or come along and listen! We want to capture as many Fenland Stories as we can, even if it’s just how you feel about the Fens.

Danny says: “I have always been interested in the history of the fens, they hold a certain mystery due to their long unrecorded history. The history we do know is laced with strange happenings, curious local traditions and we constantly hear whisperings of lost treasure and bog spirits. I want to capture people’s versions of these stories, their connections to the landscape and feelings about where they live so we can colour in the black and white history books with people’s unique life experiences.”
